The Mexican Secretary of Defense reports that four suspected kidnappers tied to the Zetas gang were killed and four others arrested after a three hour gun battle in Celaya. The shootout began about 4 am when federal police officers investigating a kidnapping gang led by the notorious kidnapper Gabino Beltrán Soto, alias Commander Topo or Topomix raided their hideout. The kidnappers attacked the officers with hand grenades and machine gun fire in a battle that lasted until about 7 am. Four Zetas died in the battle and four others including a pregnant woman were arrested and transferred by helicopter to a prison in Mexico City. Four police officers were wounded by shrapnel from hand grenades. The gang leader Gabino Beltrán Grove was among the Zetas that died in the gun fight. The Zetas are tied to the Gulf Drug Cartel. Police seized automatic weapons, hand grenades, bullet proof vests and ammunition from the drug hideout.
