A 19-year-old Hayward man was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of robbing a bank in Concord while dressed as a woman earlier this month, a police lieutenant said today. Javance Marshae Cook was arrested at about 8:40 a.m. Friday by Alameda County sheriff’s deputies in the 2100 block of Aldengate Way in Hayward, according to Concord police Lt. Steve Dyer. Cook is suspected of cross-dressing while robbing a Mechanics Bank in the 1100 block of Concord Avenue on May 7, Dyer said. Concord police investigating the robbery contacted detectives from several other local law enforcement agencies, and detectives from the San Leandro and Oakland police departments identified Cook based on his physical description, photographs from bank surveillance, and his past contacts with their agencies. Cook was arrested Friday by the sheriff’s deputies, who happened to be looking for Cook on an unrelated matter. He was taken to Concord city jail where he confessed to detectives that he committed the attempted robbery on May 7, as well as another bank robbery in Newark in April, according to Dyer. Cook was later booked into county jail in Martinez.
