Concord police arrested a 19-year-old man early Sunday morning in connection with two assaults and armed robberies, Concord police Cpl. James Carroll said Monday.Police received a call at about 2:42 a.m. from a man who said he had been on Clayton Way and Queens Road when a man approached him, tried to rob him at gunpoint and then struck him with a gun, Carroll said. The magazine fell out of the gun when the suspect hit the victim, which apparently distracted the suspect long enough that the victim was able to run inside his apartment, where he called police, Carroll said.Officers found a man matching the description of the suspect loitering behind a building in the 3500 block of Willow Pass Road. He was arrested after a brief foot chase and has been identified as Joshuwa Hernandez, Carroll said. Police found a loaded gun along Hernandez’s flight path, Carroll said.At about 4 a.m. police received a call from a local hospital reporting a second victim, who said he had been pistol-whipped and robbed of his money and bicycle just a few bocks away from where the first victim had been attacked. The second robbery happened in the area of Willow Pass and Farm Bureau roads most likely just before the first victim was attacked. Police found the victim’s bicycle nearby.Hernandez has been booked into county jail on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a loaded firearm,Carroll said.
