Prosecutors filed murder charges today against a 37-year-old man suspected of beating and stabbing to death his roommate at a Richmond group home and then dumping his body in unincorporated North Richmond. Gregory Walker was arrested Sunday in connection with the death of 47-year-old Ernest Jackson, Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said.He was charged today with murder with an enhancement for the use of a knife, Deputy District Attorney Mary Knox said. Walker also has two prior felony strikes for robbery and residential burglary, Knox said.Jackson was last seen alive with Walker on Wednesday night, Knox said.He was not seen again until his body was discovered on the side of the road shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Garden Tract Road, according to the sheriff’s office. An autopsy revealed that he died from multiple stab wounds and blunt force injury, Lee said.Knox said investigators have determined that Jackson was killed at a group home in Richmond where the two men lived and then dumped in North Richmond. The coroner’s office estimated that Jackson had been killed within 24 hours of when his body was found, Knox said.Although investigators still don’t know what happened between Wednesday night and the time of the killing, Knox said that Jackson’s brother told investigators that Jackson owed Walker $5 and that Walker had been threatening Jackson to try to get him to repay the money.
