Petaluma police and the California Highway Patrol focused on speeding motorcyclists driving away from motorcycle racing events held at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma County over the weekend, but almost all the offending drivers were in four-wheeled vehicles, police said. The operation, which began on Friday and ended Sunday evening, resulted in the issuing of 116 citations, the majority of which were for driving at an unsafe speed.Only two of those citations were issued for motorcycle riders, and both were for equipment violations, according to police. There was one incident in Petaluma involving a motorcyclist, though, police said.Harold Harmon, a 55-year-old Santa Rosa man, was riding his black Harley Davidson bike east on East D Street when he turned right onto Lakeville Street, according to police.Harmon turned into the railroad track right-of-way and struck a concrete curb that separates the track from the roadway. He suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was in stable condition today, police said.Officers later determined Harmon was riding under the influence of alcohol, and he was arrested for DUI, according to police. The operation this weekend involved Petaluma police officers and CHP officers from Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties.
