A 20-year-old San Mateo man was arrested Thursday for allegedly assaulting two people with a sharp object at a Hyatt Summerfield Suites hotel in Belmont Saturday morning, a police lieutenant said today.The assault was reported at about 3 a.m. Saturday at the hotel located at 400 Concourse Drive, Belmont police Lt. Patrick Halleran said.A group of people became involved in a physical altercation in one of the rooms, and a suspect apparently used a knife or another sharp object to slash at two victims, Halleran said.One of the victims received lacerations and was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries that were not life threatening. The other victim suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment, according to Halleran.The suspect fled before police arrived, but after talking with the victims and other people who witnessed the incident, investigators identified the suspect as Jason Anthony Ortega, Halleran said.Police obtained an arrest warrant for Ortega and he eventually surrendered to police at the county jail Thursday and was taken into custody, Halleran said.He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence assault, brandishing a weapon, and violation of a protective order, according to police.
