Police arrested three Tracy boys on suspicion of carjacking today after they were seen knocking on doors in a San Ramon neighborhood, San Ramon police said.Police received a call from a resident at 8:17 a.m. reporting two suspicious people in the area of Westside Drive near Woodborough Way.Responding officers found two boys who matched the description given by the resident, but they took off running when they saw police. Meanwhile, another officer stopped a suspicious looking vehicle nearby and arrested a third boy, police said. The car he was driving had been stolen in a carjacking in Tracy Wednesday evening and investigators believe that the two boys who fled were talking to the third boy on a cell phone when police interrupted them, police said. While the third boy was being arrested, the first two boys ran onto Interstate Highway 680, where they hitched a ride from a passing truck driver. The truck exited the highway at Bollinger Canyon Road and officers found it in the parking lot of a Target store at Bollinger Canyon Road and Sunset Drive, police said. The truck driver told officers that that he did not know the boys, but that he had voluntarily given them a ride off the highway.Police found the two boys hiding inside the Target store and arrested them on suspicion of carjacking from the Tracy incident. The boys were also wanted on an outstanding warrant for escaping from a juvenile justice center in San Joaquin County, police said.Police believe the boys had been knocking on doors in the West Side Drive neighborhood to find out if anyone was home. According to police, it is common for burglars to knock on doors to see if anyone is there before burglarizing homes.
