* Mission College in Santa Clara, women accosted at gunpoint

Police are looking for a man who accosted a woman at gunpoint at Mission College in Santa Clara on Monday, a West Valley-Mission Community College District spokeswoman said.A man carrying a silver handgun approached a woman in student parking lot A at Mission College at about 2:20 p.m., district police said.The woman, a student at the school, was sitting in her car when the man came over, flashed the gun and tried to get into the vehicle, district spokeswoman Ruth Carlson said.The woman quickly drove away and the man fled. The victim was frightened but uninjured.Carlson said extra police officers are patrolling the parking lot and the campus today.”It’s unusual for us,” she said. “We have a very low crime rate.”The suspect is described as a white man between 25 and 28 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall. He has dark hair, a thin build, and was wearing dark-colored sunglasses, a black jacket and blue jeans. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call district police Investigator Kevin Borges at (408) 741-2068.An emergency alert system sent out 25,000 notifications about the incident Monday, Carlson said. Students and staff can sign up for the service for free at www.wvm.edu/emergency.
