A 21-year-old man and 17-year-old girl were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of two 18-year-old men in Hayward early this morning, according to police. The shooting was reported shortly after 1:05 a.m. in the area of the 21600 block of Westpark Street.Emergency crews arrived in the area minutes later and found an 18-year-old man laying next to a vehicle parked on the street. The victim had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.Authorities also found another 18-year-old man on the sidewalk next to the vehicle. The victim had been shot numerous times, but initially was able to talk to investigators. He was taken to Eden Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to police.The identities of the two victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.Officers spotted a vehicle speeding away from the area of the shooting and tried to stop it. However, the driver failed to yield and a pursuit of the vehicle ensued, police said.The vehicle drove onto Interstate Highway 880 and into Oakland where it took the eastbound Hegenberger Road exit and began traveling recklessly on the wrong side of the road, according to police.Hayward police officers lost sight of the vehicle, but it was spotted about 10 minutes later in the 6500 block of Fenham Street. The vehicle was unoccupied, but two suspects were seen walking away from the area and fled on foot when Oakland police officers tried to contact them.Oakland and Hayward police officers, assisted by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, surrounded the area and at about 2:15 a.m. found a 17-year-old girl hiding at a business center in the 900 block of 66th Avenue, according to police.The girl, a Fremont resident, was detained and later positively identified by witnesses as being at the scene of the shooting. Witnesses also identified the vehicle as being at the scene, and the girl was arrested on suspicion of homicide and transported to juvenile hall, police said.Authorities continued searching the area for the second suspect, and at 7:22 a.m. the 21-year-old man was spotted in the backyard of a home in the 6200 block of Tevis Street, according to police.The suspect was hiding in a van parked in the backyard and refused to exit the vehicle. A police dog had to be sent into the van, where the suspect resisted and was bitten.The suspect, an Oakland resident, was eventually taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of homicide, police said.Police served two search warrants later today at residents associated with the two suspects.The motive for the shooting has not been established, according to police. The homicides are Hayward’s eighth and ninth this year.
