A 14-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the hand in Salinas Sunday morning and was later arrested for weapon and gang offenses, according to police.Salinas police responded at about 10:10 a.m. to the intersection of South Sanborn Road and McGowan Drive for a report of a shooting.Officers determined the 14-year-old boy had accidentally shot himself in the left hand while manipulating a small-caliber handgun. The boy quickly handed the gun to an 11-year-old sibling to hide it, according to police.The boy was taken to a local hospital to undergo surgery on his injured hand, police said.Investigators were able to recover the weapon and later arrested the boy on suspicion of being a minor in possession of a handgun, negligent discharge of a weapon, child endangerment, and a gang enhancement.
