Police arrested a 46-year-old man Wednesday evening who they believe beat his estranged wife’s new boyfriend to death in Antioch earlier that day.The Antioch Police Department received a call shortly before noon reporting that a man was lying unresponsive in the front yard of a house on Calhoun Court, police said. The victim was identified today as 47-year-old David Portillo, according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office. At about 7:30 p.m., police arrested the suspect, Paul Soriano, at a relative’s house in Antioch, police said. Investigators believe Soriano was upset because his estranged wife, who had a restraining order against him, was dating Portillo and had recently moved in with her, police said.Police said Soriano knew that his wife and their three children, two teenagers and an elementary school-age child, were attending a funeral Wednesday morning and that Portillo would be home alone. Investigators believe Soriano went over to the house and the two men reportedly got into a violent confrontation, during which Portillo was beaten to death.Soriano is being held in county jail in Martinez on $1 million bail, according to a county jail official.
