A San Rafael teen who was fatally shot at an apartment complex on Kerner Boulevard Wednesday night has been identified by police as 18-year-old Helvin Geovany Vicente Perez. The San Rafael man was shot multiple times around 9:30 p.m., police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said. The Marin County coroner’s office had previously identified 17-year-old Kelvin Perez Vicente as the victim. Perez is from Guatemala and worked as a day laborer, Rohrbacher said. Police said he also is a documented gang member. Police responded to reports of gunshots around 9:30 p.m. and found his body in a walkway outside 3411 Kerner Boulevard. Police said a stray bullet shattered the bedroom window of a nearby apartment and lodged in the wall of a room two feet from a sleeping 8-year-old girl who was not injured. The gunfire also shattered the windows of a parked vehicle near the shooting scene. Rohrbacher said a dog trained to detect explosives searched the Canal neighborhood shooting area but neither a gun nor ammunition was found. Police said they do not have a motive or suspect at this time.
