Two separate homicides in Santa Clara on Friday claimed the lives of two men, though the murders do not appear to be related, a police lieutenant said today. Officers responded to an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Don Avenue at about 6:15 p.m. Friday and found a man deceased at the scene, Santa Clara police Lt. Phil Cooke said. At about 10:20 a.m. Friday, police went to the St. Francis Motel at 2222 The Alameda where a man was also found dead, Cooke said. Police initially called that death suspicious, but the case has since been declared a homicide, Cooke said. Neither man’s identity has been released, and authorities have not released a manner of death in either case. Cooke said the murders are isolated incidents, but said it’s
unusual for two homicides to occur in one day in Santa Clara. “We often just get two incidents like this in one year,” Cooke said, adding that Santa Clara is typically a quiet city. The two homicides were the city’s first this year.
