A 19-year-old man died after what police believe was a gang-related shooting in Santa Cruz early this morning. The shooting was reported shortly after midnight in the area of 90 Grandview Street, police said.A group of people were having a party at a park adjacent to an apartment complex prior to when the shooting occurred. The victim and a 15-year-old boy were walking to get some items they had left near the party when they were approached by the suspect,who fired a black semiautomatic gun several times at the victim from close range, according to police.The victim, a Santa Cruz resident, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and arm. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6:45 a.m., police said.The 15-year-old boy was uninjured and fled during the shooting, according to police.The suspect was last seen fleeing east on Grandview Street toward Mission Street. He is described as a Hispanic male in his late teens or early 20s who is 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build and dark complexion.Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related, but are trying to determine what exactly led to the shooting.
