Police arrested one of two suspects in a Daly City bank robbery this morning after a plainclothes officer saw a car speeding away from the bank and other officers chased it into San Francisco.Two masked gunmen robbed a US Bank branch at 95 Southgate Ave. at 10:15 a.m. One of the suspects jumped over a teller counter and stole money from the drawers, police said. No employees or customers were injured.Daly City police Sgt. David Mackriss had been on duty in plain clothes and was driving an unmarked police car nearby when he saw a black sport-utility vehicle speed away from the rear of the bank, police said.The SUV, occupied by at least two people wearing hooded sweatshirts, drove erratically, ran red lights and made several abrupt turns.Three other Daly City detectives spotted the SUV near John Daly and Junipero Serra boulevards at the San Francisco border and followed the car onto 19th Avenue into San Francisco, police said.The SUV slowed in the first block of Beverly Street and a passenger jumped out and ran into a nearby home, police said.Police found the passenger, a 26-year-old San Francisco man, hiding in a neighbor’s backyard and arrested him. His name has not yet been released.The second suspect is still at large. The SUV is described as a black Chevrolet Tahoe.The stolen money has not been recovered.San Francisco police, who assisted with the investigation, stopped a second vehicle near 19th Avenue and Junipero Serra Boulevard, but the driver was determined not to be the robbery suspect.Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Daly City Police Department at (650) 991-8119.
