A 59-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was attacked in broad daylight as he was walking with his son near Oakland’s Fox Theater this afternoon, a police spokeswoman said. Officers responded to the 1800 block of Telegraph Avenue at about 3 p.m. on reports of the assault and found Tiansheng Yu unresponsive, police Officer Holly Joshi said. The San Francisco man suffered life-threatening injuries consistent with blunt force trauma and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Joshi said the father and son were shopping in the area when two young men assaulted them in what appears to be a random attack. The son is expected to survive. In a prepared statement, Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums said, “The brutal and random attack this afternoon in broad daylight on two innocent men was senseless and outrageous. Our hearts and prayers are with the father, now on life-support, and his loved ones who are also suffering.” The Police Department has increased patrols tonight in the uptown and downtown business districts, according to Dellums, who said police will “pursue every lead until those responsible for this violence are apprehended.” Please call the Fugitive Watch hot line at 1-800-9-CAUGHT (1-800-922-8448) or text us at 408-355-0999 or CLICK HERE to send a confidential email tip, if you know the names of the responsibles or have any information that can help solve this crime.
