A Salinas man was arrested Friday night after leading Monterey County sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit that spanned nearly five miles before the man crashed in a strawberry field. Deputies spotted Seth Adam Swain, 23, driving on Rogge Road near Jade Drive and tried to pull him over for equipment violations at about 10:15 p.m. Friday, according to the sheriff’s office. But Swain didn’t stop and after about a quarter mile he began to drive recklessly in an attempt to evade the deputies, the sheriff’s office reported. After another 4.1 miles, Swain lost control of his vehicle and crashed in a strawberry field on Old Stage Road, according to the sheriff’s office. Swain then tried to run from his vehicle but deputies chased him until he was apprehended about 25 yards away. An open bottle of alcohol was allegedly found in the vehicle, but he was determined to have not been under the influence of alcohol. He was, however, found to be on felony probation, and was arrested and booked into Monterey County jail.
