A 34-year-old Redwood City man was arrested Monday evening after he allegedly kidnapped a woman from her home in Monte Sereno and drove her to Galt, according to Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police. The series of events began at about 3:20 p.m., when police detectives and officers responded to a report of a kidnapping at the victim’s home on Grandview Avenue in Monte Sereno, police said. The victim, identified as Tasha McDonald, had told an employee at a liquor store in Santa Cruz that she had been kidnapped by a family acquaintance from her home earlier in the day. About 10 minutes later,McDonald’s husband reported a family friend had kidnapped his wife and that both his wife and the suspect were possibly on their way to Watsonville in her Lincoln Navigator, according to police.Police discovered that the suspect, identified as Brian Wayne Brown, had forced his way into McDonald’s house and demanded she go with him to Santa Cruz for lunch. McDonald went with him in her car because she feared for her safety, police said.As they traveled south over the course of the next few hours, McDonald sent text messages to family and friends, from which detectives ascertained they were traveling south on state Highway 152.Detectives also learned that Brown’s brother lived in Salida and that his mother lived in Galt, so they notified Galt police to keep an eye on the area near his mother’s home. Brown was arrested by Galt police at about 8:45 p.m. Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police detectives drove to Galt and transported Brown to the Santa Clara County main jail. Brown was booked on burglary, kidnapping and stolen vehicle charges. An arraignment date has not yet been set.
