A 21-year-old man was arrested Thursday after a stabbing in Gilroy the previous day, according to police. Cristian Fuentes Colin was arrested following the stabbing, which was reported shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of East Seventh Street, Gilroy police said. Arriving officers found the victim suffering from stab wounds to his upper body. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police. About four hours later, officers responded to a call of a suspicious person at a location just blocks from where the stabbing occurred. That person, Colin, fled from officers but was caught, arrested, and later cited and released, police said. On Thursday, investigators determined Colin was the suspect in the stabbing, and they arrested him later that evening. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Santa Clara County jail. Police do not believe the suspect and victim knew each other and are trying to determine a motive for the attack. Anyone with information about the stabbing is encouraged to contact Anti-Crime Team Investigator Juan Rocha at (408) 846-0384.
