Police have arrested a suspect in the March 25 shooting that killed 16-year-old Antioch resident Mark Knight, Antioch police said today.Javonee Deshaun Lumford, 22, a resident of Antioch and Brentwood, was arrested Monday night as he drove away from his mother’s house in the 2100 block of Thomas Road in Brentwood.A short time later, an Antioch SWAT team and Brentwood police served a search warrant at Lumford’s mother’s house to look for evidence related to Knight’s killing, but didn’t find anything, police said.Police interviewed Lumford after his arrest and he allegedly eventually admitted to shooting at the car Knight was in as it drove away, police said. The shooting happened shortly after 11:10 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 3915 Delta Fair Blvd. in Antioch.Knight was with several cousins when they allegedly got into an argument with another group of people over a financial debt. Police said it appears the argument had been going on for at least a couple of weeks.During the argument, Knight and his cousins decided to leave, but as they got into their car, somebody from the other group fired several shots at them. One of the bullets struck and killed Knight as he sat in the back seat, police said.Police said today they believe Lumford was present during the argument that led to the shooting. Although he apparently wasn’t participating in the argument, police believe he pulled out a gun and shot at the car containing Knight. Lumford has been booked into county jail on suspicion of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also on parole for robbery when he was arrested, police said.
