A 41-year-old man was hospitalized after being assaulted while intervening in an argument outside a bar in Salinas early Saturday morning, police said. The assault was reported shortly after 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Clay Street, according to Salinas police. The man was exiting Chapala’s Mexican Restaurant and Cantina, located nearby at 438 Salinas St., when he saw a family member involved in an argument with a group of unknown males, police said. Arriving officers found the victim was still on the ground and unconscious with a large cut on his scalp. He was airlifted to a trauma center in San Jose and released later that day after being treated for his injuries, police said.
