* Claude Lee Mitchell Concord murder suspect’s car located in Pittsburg

Concord police recovered a homicide suspect’s vehicle Thursday night in Pittsburg but are still seeking the suspect who is believed to have shot and killed his girlfriend’s stepfather, police said today. The shooting was reported at 3:20 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 4800 block of Clayton Road. Officers arrived to find 48-year-old Carlton Ross dead in a stairwell. He had been
shot several times. Police said Ross lived in the apartment complex.Witnesses identified the shooter as 25-year-old Claude Lee Mitchell, who also lives at the complex, possibly in the same apartment as Ross, police said. Mitchell is described as being a black man, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 155 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. At about 10 p.m. Thursday police found Mitchell’s vehicle in the parking lot of a Staples store in Pittsburg, police said.Police initially reported that they were also seeking Mitchell’s girlfriend as a possible witness to the shooting, but said today that they are no longer looking for her and do not believe she is with Mitchell.Investigators now believe Mitchell left the complex alone and that Ross was Mitchell’s girlfriend’s stepfather.Mitchell should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.
