A husband and wife were arrested in Santa Clara County last week for allegedly lying to insurance investigators after they were involved in a car accident, the state insurance commissioner’s office announced today. Maya Gonzales, 32, and her husband Juan Torres, 27, were arrested on March 19 for a November 2009 incident. An investigation allegedly revealed that on Nov. 6, Gonzales was driving and rear-ended another vehicle. Gonzales was not insured, though, so the couple said Torres was
driving because he had insurance that would cover the vehicles’ damage. The two allegedly lied to an insurance investigator when asked who was driving. Gonzales and Torres were booked in Santa Clara County jail for suspected automobile insurance fraud. They face up to five years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines if convicted.
