Burglars broke into a house in Pittsburg on Tuesday morning and tied up an 84-year-old woman, Pittsburg police Lt. Brian Addington said today. The elderly woman lives with her 58-year-old daughter in the 1400 block of Ventura Drive. On the morning of the burglary, the woman’s daughter left for work at about 6:30 a.m., leaving her mother home alone. At about 9:30 a.m., a caretaker came to the house to help the elderly woman, but when she went into the garage, she found that the door from the garage into the house was open.Afraid of what she might find inside, the caretaker went over to the house of another family member who lives nearby and asked her to come to the house with her, Addington said. The two women returned to the house together, found that it had been ransacked and immediately called police. When police arrived, they found the elderly woman lying on her bed with her hands tied behind her back, Addington said. She was fully clothed and police are confident that no sexual assault occurred, Addington said. The woman was taken to a local hospital to be examined and was later released. According to Addington, she suffered only minor scratches from the incident and was not seriously injured. The burglars took cash and other valuables, Addington said. While police were investigating the incident, they discovered that a vacant house next door had also been broken into, but there was nothing inside for the burglars to take.
