Police seized 23 pit bulls from a home in East Oakland on Tuesday night and are investigating whether they had been used in a dog-fighting ring, a police spokesman said today. The pit bulls were confiscated at about 10 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 8400 block of Dowling Street, Oakland police Officer Jeff Thomason said. The dogs, which included 19 adult pit bulls and four puppies, were taken from the home and will be examined by veterinarians to see if they have injuries consistent with dogfights, Thomason said. He said that after the medical examinations, authorities will decide whether to file charges against the man who owned the dogs.
