* Jason Watts And Deshawn Reed Both Charged With Oakland Killing Of Victor Johns And John Jones On 30th Street

Two Oakland men were both charged today with two counts of murder plus a special circumstance clause that could lead to the death penalty for the shooting deaths of two other men last Friday afternoon.Alameda County Chief Deputy District Attorney Tom Rogers said he charged 26-year-old Deshawn Reed and 25-year-old Jason Watts in connection with the deaths of 29-year-old Victor Johns and 56-year-old John Jones, both of Oakland.Johns and Jones were killed in the 1000 block of 30th Street in  Oakland at about 2:35 p.m. on Friday.Rogers said that in addition to charging Reed and Watts with two counts of murder, he also charged them with the special circumstance of committing multiple murders.Watts also was charged with having two prior felony convictions, an enhancement that could increase his sentence if he’s convicted.The prosecutor said police believe Reed shot both Johns and Jones and Watts drove the car to and from the shooting scene.Rogers said Watts slowed down the car as they approached the scene,Reed got out of the car and shot both Johns and Jones and then climbed back inside.”They drove off fast,” Rogers said.He said Officer Michael Osanna was on routine patrol in the area and was able to quickly detain Reed and Watts.Reed and Watts were scheduled to be arraigned in Wiley Manuel Court in Oakland late this afternoon.
