The suspect in the killing of a 20-year-old Chabot College student outside a Hayward bar early Sunday morning was identified today by police as Shawn Thomas, 25, of Pittsburg.Jeremy Hansen, of Hayward, was fatally shot at about 1:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Roberto’s Cocktail Lounge at 26050 Mocine Ave., according to police.According to Hansen’s family, Hansen had been helping his cousin disc jockey at the bar that night, and was with about a dozen other family members when a fight broke out just before closing time.The dispute continued in the parking lot, where Hansen was shot. Witnesses held Thomas until police arrived and arrested him.Thomas is on a no-bail hold at Santa Rita jail for a probation violation while prosecutors weigh murder charges, Hayward police Lt. Chris Orrey said.Thomas was on felony probation for assault with a deadly weapon, according to Orrey.Hansen’s mother Diane Hansen said in an interview Monday that she did not believe her son had been the target of the shooting.”We don’t know yet” if he was the target, Orrey said today. “We are still interviewing people.”Orrey said police are still seeking additional witnesses to Sunday’s shooting.
