Benicia police and the FBI are investigating the whereabouts of a man who robbed a U.S. Bank branch in the city this morning.The suspect entered the bank at 848 Southampton Road just before 11 a.m., told a teller he had a gun and demanded money, police said. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of cash and fled through the shopping center.Police described the suspect as a black man, 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches and 180 pounds. He was wearing a blue beanie with a bill on the front, a blue jumpsuit and was carrying a white plastic bag.Police have released a photograph of the suspect.”This is Benicia’s first bank robbery of 2010,” Benicia police Lt. Mike Daley said in a prepared statement. “We had only three bank robberies in 2009.
