Prosecutors charged a 17-year-old Richmond boy as an adult today for allegedly shooting a 2-year-old girl in the arm last month in the city’s Iron Triangle neighborhood, Deputy District Attorney Dan Cabral said. Willie Bernstine has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle in connection with the Jan. 27 attack, which happened just after 6 p.m. in the 500 block of Seventh Street. Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said Bernstine admitted to the shooting after his arrest on Feb.11.Investigators believe Bernstine thought the car belonged to someone else and does not appear to have targeted the child or her father, French said. The toddler has since been released from the hospital. Bernstine will be arraigned in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez this afternoon. His bail has been set at about $1.5 million, Cabral said.
