The teen charged in connection with the shooting of an ice cream truck driver in Vallejo pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and attempted robbery charges in Solano County Superior Court this afternoon. Peter Montenegro, 15, of Vallejo, is being prosecuted as an adult and is being held under $1 million bail. He will appear in court again Feb. 26 for setting of a preliminary hearing date. Montenegro, a Hogan High School freshman, allegedly shot 39-year-old Amarjit Kaur in the chest during an attempted robbery as she sat in her ice cream truck on Springs Road in Vallejo on Feb. 3. Vallejo police said a video taken at a nearby hot dog restaurant recorded Montenegro walking quickly through the store after the shooting around 2:40 p.m., leading to Montenegro’s identity. Montenegro was arrested Feb. 10 outside a residence in the 1100 block of 73rd Avenue in Oakland. Vallejo police also arrested a 14-year-old boy for attempted robbery and attempted murder in connection with the shooting.
