* 17-Year-Old Richmond Boy Today For Allegedly Shooting A 2-Year-Old Girl In The Arm Last Month

Police arrested a 17-year-old Richmond boy today for allegedly shooting a 2-year-old girl in the arm last month in the city’s Iron Triangle neighborhood in what appears to be a case of mistaken identity, police Sgt. Bisa French said.The teenager, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was arrested early this afternoon on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. During an interview with investigators, he allegedly admitted to the shooting, which happened just after 6 p.m. on Jan. 27 in the 500 block of Seventh Street, French said.The toddler had been riding with her father in a Jeep Cherokee when the teenager allegedly shot at their vehicle, French said. The girl was struck in her shoulder.She has since been released from the hospital, French said. The father was not hurt.Police believe that the teenager targeted the vehicle thinking it belonged to someone else and does not appear to have targeted the child or her father, French said.
