* Bobby Ward Identified As Oakland Shooting Victim On Mead Avenue

Oakland police today identified a man killed in a shooting in Oakland Sunday evening as 38-year-old Bobby Ward.The shooting was reported in the 800 block of Mead Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday. That block has been the site of several deadly shootings in recent years.Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said police don’t know where Ward lived. No suspects have been identified and the motive has not yet been determined. Ward’s death was the first of two murders in a span of less than 90 minutes in the city Sunday night.At 8:48 p.m., police received a report that someone was injured at a home in the 5900 block of East 17th Street. When officers arrived, they found 17-year-old Concord resident Romero Cervantes inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds.Paramedics administered first aid but were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Thomason said.Anyone with information about either homicide is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department at (510) 238-3821.
