* Romero Cervantes 17-Year-Old Found Shot To Death In Oakland On East 17th Street

Two people were killed in separate shootings in Oakland on Sunday evening,Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said today.The first shooting was reported at 7:23 p.m. in the 800 block of Mead Avenue, which has been the site of several deadly shootings in the past few years.When officers arrived, they found the victim lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound, Thomason said.Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his wounds. His name was not being released this afternoon because his family hadn’t yet been notified of his death, Thomason said. No suspects have been identified and the motive for the killing is unknown, Thomason said.A little over an hour later, at 8:48 p.m., police received a report that a second person was injured inside a home in the 5900 block of East 17th Street.When officers arrived, they found the victim, 17-year-old Concord resident Romero Cervantes, inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds.Paramedics administered first aid, but were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Thomason said.Anyone with information about either homicide is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department at (510) 238-3821.
