Police are investigating whether a 28-year-old Antioch man who appears to have shot himself in the head Sunday night during a Super Bowl party committed suicide or shot himself accidentally, Antioch police Lt. Leonard Orman said today.Police were called to the man’s house at 910 San Carlos Drive at 10:44 p.m. and found the victim in front of the house. He had been shot once in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.Investigators have determined that there was a Super Bowl party at the house, which the victim shares with at least two other people, and that there was some sort of verbal disagreement over a bet that was placed on the game, police said. Most of the people at the party had consumed a large quantity of alcohol and were extremely intoxicated, Orman said.At some point, the victim came into the house and then left again with a handgun. At least one friend tried to talk him into putting the gun away, police said.A short time later, the gun went off, killing the victim. When police searched the home, they found a “significant amount of marijuana packaged for sale and psilocybin mushrooms,” police said. Orman said the drugs appeared to have belonged to the victim. An autopsy was scheduled for this morning, police said.”It is really looking like he either intentionally or unintentionally shot himself,” Orman said. But, he said, investigators are taking additional care in their investigation because of the other criminal activity that appeared to be going on at the house.
