Pittsburg High School was placed on lockdown for about an hour and a half this afternoon while police searched for suspects who were involved in an exchange of gunfire near the campus, police Lt. Brian Addington said.Police received a report of shots fired on Harbor Street near School Street just east of the high school at about 1:30 p.m., Addington said. The caller reported seeing a green Cadillac associated with the gunmen.A Pittsburg police officer who was responding to the call saw two men walking away from a green Cadillac and arrested them. They have been identified as Kitione Kulu and Aseli Vehikite, both 20-year-old Pittsburg residents. The two men are cousins, Addington said. From what police have been able to piece together so far, it appears that someone at or near the school, and possibly a student at the school, was involved in an ongoing feud or argument with someone else and called the two men to the school, Addington said. The men got into an argument with at least one person on Harbor Street and then the group started shooting at each other, Addington said. The Cadillac was struck multiple times and police found 14 shell casings from two different types of guns, Addington said. They did not find any blood or other evidence to indicate that anyone was hit, but investigators have notified local hospitals to be on the lookout for someone seeking treatment for a gunshot wound in case someone was hit, Addington said.Police did not find either of the guns and are still trying to identify the other person or people involved in the shootout and the person believed to have called Kulu and Vehikite to the area.Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the alleged feud to call the Police Department’s tip line at (925) 427-7369.
