The San Mateo County coroner’s office has identified 68-year-old Theodore Eugene Hintze as the bicyclist fatally hit by a Caltrans vehicle in San Mateo in December. Authorities declined to release his name for more than a month while they searched for his next of kin. San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault said today authorities looked extensively for his family but still haven’t found them. “We searched everything we could locally, including different law enforcement databases, running fingerprints in the criminal justice system and contacting several hospitals,” Foucrault said. Hintze was riding a bicycle on the East Hillsdale Boulevard overpass above U.S. Highway 101 when he was hit by a Caltrans sport utility vehicle shortly after 6 a.m. Dec. 18, police said. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the coroner’s office at (650) 312-5562 or the San Mateo Police Department at (650) 522-7710.
