* Oakland Women Hospitalized After Shot In The Head Near 98th Av. Feb 3 2010

A shooting Tuesday evening in Oakland left a woman hospitalized and led to a standoff at a nearby home that ended when police discovered the suspect was not there, a police spokesman said today.The shooting was reported shortly before 5:40 p.m. in the 1200 block of 98th Avenue, police spokesman Officer Jeff Thomason said. Officers arrived to find a woman who had been grazed in the head by a bullet. The woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injury, which was not believed to be life-threatening, Thomason said.Investigators believe the woman was not the intended target of the shooting, he said.Witness statements and other evidence led police to a home on 98th Avenue where the shooting suspect was believed to be staying, Thomason said.The SWAT team was called out at about 9:30 p.m. because the suspect was believed to be inside, but at about 3:30 a.m. today, the team entered the home and found he was not there, Thomason said.No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
