A 30-year-old man was arrested this afternoon after police allegedly found him to be in possession of a loaded gun in a College of San Mateo parking lot. Officers went to the community college campus on Hillsdale Boulevard at about 2:30 p.m. on a report of two people examining a firearm next to a parked vehicle in parking lot No. 6, police said.Arriving officers located Merit Frank Draven, of El Granada, who allegedly had two guns in his vehicle, according to police. Officers discovered one of the guns was illegally loaded and also located an illegal switchblade knife and a crowbar, police said.Draven was booked into the San Mateo County jail for possession of a loaded firearm on a college campus, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a switchblade and possession of a dangerous weapon, according to police.While officers are investigating why the weapons were brought onto the campus, police said there appeared to be no direct threat to any students.It was not immediately clear whether Draven attended the college.The college’s staff and security will be working with the Police Department to provide increased presence and safety measures to ensure safety at the school, police said.
