* Ronald Reid Bethel Island Man Shot By Deputies Now Faces Charges For Pointing Shotgun At Them

A 48-year-old Bethel Island man who was shot by sheriff’s deputies last week after he barricaded himself in his house and allegedly pointed a shotgun at police is now facing criminal charges, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said today.Ronald Reid has been charged with brandishing a weapon and making terrorist or criminal threats, Lee said.He remained in the hospital today, but is expected to survive. His bail has been set at $50,000, Lee said.The incident began shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday when the sheriff’s office received a report that Reid was inside his house in the 600 block of Riverview Place on Bethel Island and was threatening to harm himself or police, Lee said. Responding deputies attempted to negotiate with Reid for more than an hour, but he allegedly armed himself with a shotgun. Several times during the negotiations, Reid allegedly pointed the shotgun at deputies, Lee said. At 2:43 p.m. a sheriff’s deputy shot him, Lee said.After the shooting, Reid was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center for treatment.
