Gilroy police arrested an 18-year-old man Thursday who allegedly robbed a convenience store and a gas station in the past week, and investigators are seeking a second suspect believed to be involved in the robberies. Michael Oliveira was arrested following the Saturday robbery of a Budget Liquors store on Church Street and Monday robbery of a Union 76 gas station on First Street, according to police. In both cases, two suspects entered the businesses where one of them took out a handgun and demanded cash from a store employee. No one was injured in either incident, police said. After Oliveira was identified through investigative leads as a suspect in the robberies, he was taken into custody at about 5 p.m. Thursday after officers spotted him walking near Welburn and Kern avenues, police said. He was booked into county jail on suspicion of the two armed robberies and violation of probation, according to police. Investigators are working to identify the second suspect involved in the robberies. The handgun used in both incidents is also being sought, police said.
