A 24-year-old man was arrested in Salinas Friday after allegedly harassing a pregnant woman and assaulting a police officer who had responded to the woman’s call for help, police said. Andy Pimentel was arrested after the incident, which began at 12:34 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Grandhaven Street and Williams Road, according to police. The 32-year-old pregnant woman was at a business near the intersection when Pimentel approached her, according to police. Pimentel, whom the victim says she did not know, clenched his fists and raised them above his shoulders like he was going to strike her, police said. The victim fled and got into a stranger’s vehicle, and Pimentel followed and beat on the vehicle’s windows while the victim called police. An officer who was nearby received the report about the incident and saw Pimentel walking away from the area. The officer tried to detain Pimentel, but he ignored the officer’s commands and kept walking, according to police.
The officer then grabbed Pimentel, who turned around and pushed the officer. A second officer arrived and saw Pimentel push the other officer. The second officer took Pimentel, who weighs between 350 and 400 pounds, to the ground, but the suspect fell on the officer’s leg, police said. Pimentel was eventually subdued and taken into custody. He was booked in Monterey County jail on suspicion of assault and battery on a peace officer, according to police. The second officer was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the fall, police said.
