On Friday, January 22, 2010 at approximately 7:27 AM, San Jose Police Officers were alerted that a male subject had fled from Transportation Security Agents (TSA) agents at the Mineta San Jose International Airport. The subject passed through the first stage of security on his way to board a flight to Hawaii. TSA agents then requested he step into an adjacent area for a secondary search of his person. Once in the secondary search area, he fled from the agents and ran back through the entrance corridor toward the ticketing area. At no time did he enter the secured area of the airport nor was there any disruption to airport activities.
The subject left the terminal area and ran towards the airport parking area. He approached an unknown person and asked for a ride. That person gave the subject a ride to the area of N. First Street near Brokaw Road. This person who gave him a ride returned to the airport, noticed the increased police presence and alerted the police as to the possible whereabouts of the subject.
Shortly thereafter, officers located the subject in the area of N. First Street and Karina Ct. He was taken into custody without incident. Officers reviewed the airport security videos and located footage of the the suspect hiding an object inside the airport terminal. Officers searched the area displayed in the video footage and recovered five pounds of suspected methamphetamine.
