A badly decomposed body was recovered from a small channel near Alameda on Saturday, U.S. Coast Guard Cmdr. Joe Ford said today. A boater called the Coast Guard at about 12:25 p.m. to report that a man’s body was floating face down in the water in San Leandro Channel, a small waterway that runs between Alameda and Oakland International Airport, Ford said. Coast Guard officials retrieved the body from the water and turned it over to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau. Alameda County Coroner Investigator Damon Wilson said a forensic odontologist was scheduled to examine dental records of a person they believe the body may belong to and compare them to those of the deceased man. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine a cause of death, but as of this afternoon no foul play was suspected, Wilson said.
