A general contractor from Novato will be arraigned this afternoon on assault charges after he allegedly tried to stab his friend and threatened him with a shotgun Thursday.Donald David Jackson, 41, was intoxicated when he brandished a knife and threatened to kill a 42-year-old Novato man at 9 Sylvia Circle around 3:15 p.m., Lt. Rich Hill said.The victim suffered two small cuts on his hand when he took away the knife from Jackson, Hill said. Jackson then retrieved a shotgun and walked toward the victim who disarmed Jackson, left and called police, Hill said. Police later found the gun was loaded and there was a round in the chamber, Hill said.Jackson was arrested in the front yard of the residence for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury.Jackson is being held in the Marin County jail under $50,000 bail. He will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. in Marin County Superior Court.The two men have known each other for a number of years, Hill said. Police did not say what the confrontation was about.The victim suffered lacerations, contusions and abrasions and was treated at Novato Community Hospital.
