* Freeway Fatal Shooting westbound Highway 80 Just West Of Cummings Skyway East Of Hercules

One person has been killed in what appears to be a highway shooting on westbound Interstate Highway 80 just east of Hercules Tuesday night, a California Highway Patrol officer said.Officers responded to reports of a single vehicle crash when a witness saw a Nissan Sentra strike the center divide and then the guardrail of westbound Highway 80 just west of Cummings Skyway in an unincorporated part of Contra Costa County at about 9:55 p.m., CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said.Another witness driving in the area stopped and reported that the driver and the car appeared to have been shot multiple times, CHP Sgt. Trent Cross said. Arriving officers confirmed the fatality and are investigating as of 11:45 p.m.”The driver did die from fatal gunshot wounds,” Cross said.Anyone who might have information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the CHP at 1(800) TELLCHP.Three right lanes of the highway remained closed at 11:45 p.m. due to the CHP investigation, Cross said.
