Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums issued a statement today calling the murder of an Oakland man in front of his wife and two young children “a tragic act of violence that leaves a young family torn apart.”Alvaro Ayala, 28, was with his wife and children in front of their home in the 900 block of 70th Avenue at about 7 p.m. when two gunmen attempted to rob them, Oakland police said.Ayala was shot during the robbery attempt and emergency medical personnel were unable to revive him, police said.”The first homicide of the year has been an example of the sort of rage and disregard for human life that cannot and will not be tolerated in our city,” Dellums said.”As we get deeper into this New Year, let us move forward with a strong sense of peace and community that will allow us to continue to drive down crime,” Dellums said.He offered his condolences to Ayala’s wife and children and urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Oakland Police Department at (510) 238-3821.
