Hayward police today released the names of the city’s first two homicide victims of 2010, killed early Sunday in separate shootings.William Robert Vatuvei, 20, was shot and killed in the 27000 block of Orlando Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday while sitting in a parked car with several other people, police said.Investigators believe a second vehicle drove by and a passenger fired into the parked car, hitting Vatuvei, police said. Vatuvei had recently moved away from Hayward but had been visiting friends and family there, Sgt. Keith Stiver said.About 20 minutes later, across the city in the 22000 block of South Garden Avenue, 21-year-old Jose Guerrero Barraza, of Hayward, was shot while walking with three other people toward their car, police said. Police said a group of people confronted Barraza’s group and that one of the suspects pulled a gun and shot Barraza.Police continue to investigate the two shootings and are interviewing witnesses, Stiver said. No arrests have been made.”At this point in time, we have no reason to believe that (the shootings) are connected in any way,” Stiver said.
