* Chinook Bacon 17-year-Old Oakland Boy Charged With Murder Of Barbara Mitchell After Speeding From Police

A 17-year-old Oakland boy was charged with murder today in connection with a crash Thursday that killed a 66-year-old woman.Chinook Bacon, who was charged as an adult, is scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court on Tuesday on charges of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and unlawfully taking a vehicle.According to Oakland police, Bacon, who has an extensive juvenile criminal record, was driving a stolen Toyota Camry when two gang suppression unit officers tried to stop him about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.Police said Bacon sped through two stop signs and then collided with a Saturn.Barbara Mitchell, who was sitting in the Saturn’s right front passenger seat, was killed and the Saturn’s driver and another passenger were hospitalized but survived.Police said Bacon suffered only minor injuries in the crash.The three passengers in the Toyota Camry, who are ages 14, 18 and 19, were also injured in the crash.Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley said in a news release that Bacon, who will turn 18 on March 25, admitted to police that he was driving at least 80 to 85 miles per hour.O’Malley said Bacon also admitted that he had been smoking marijuana before the crash and that he knew the car was stolen and was speeding to flee from police.
