* Brandy Gargas Arrested After Speeding Away From Santa Cruz Police

A 41-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly drove down residential Santa Cruz streets at speeds up to 60 mph as he attempted to evade officers Sunday night, police said Monday.At about 11:45 p.m. Sunday, a Santa Cruz police officer saw Brandy Gargas, a Santa Cruz County man with active warrants for his arrest, in his vehicle in the 2000 block of Mission Street, police said.The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop near a fast food restaurant, when Gargas allegedly drove away from the officer. Additional units were called to provide assistance as Gargas allegedly drove the wrong way down Almar Avenue and Rankin Street before ditching his vehicle in the 300 block of Walk Circle and fleeing on foot, police said.He was arrested in the backyard of a home on that block. Gargas was then booked into the Santa Cruz County jail for his outstanding warrants and felony evasion of police.
