San Jose police have arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of murder after authorities determined the death of a 39 year old man in a fire in December was a homicide rather than an accident, a police sergeant said today. Quyen Nguyen, a San Jose resident, was arrested Thursday in connection with the Dec. 20 incident. Officers responding to a call about a fire found the victim dead shortly after 12:15 a.m. between some buildings in the 1600 block of Tully Road, according to San Jose police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez. The victim was a transient, and authorities initially believed he had died due to an accidental fire. However, on Thursday officers received information from someone who witnessed the incident, and investigators corroborated that information from other sources, Lopez said. Nguyen was identified as a suspect in the case and was taken into custody, Lopez said. He was booked in Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of murder. The death became the 28th homicide in San Jose in 2009. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Detective Sgt. Dave Tindall or Detective John Barg at (408) 277-5283. People wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-STOP.
